VSSI Overview.
VSSI was formed in 1978 to develop extensions to VM/370 that would
support the IBM Transaction Processing Facility (TPF). The first product
developed, Virtual PARS (VPARS), is a shadow
database facility that allows multiple VM guests to run TPF from a common
base system. Over 90% of IBM's licensed TPF customers use VPARS to
support their development.
In 1984-85, after numerous requests from many VPARS users, VSSI developed
a Virtual Tape (VTAPE) simulation product.
Originally created to support TPF usage of tape drives, Virtual TAPE is now
widely used by both TPF and non-TPF sites to provide Virtual tape support for VM guests.
